Daniel is a third-year MD/PhD student in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. He completed 2 years of medical school and is currently a first-year Cell Biology of Disease PhD student at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He is in the laboratory of Dr. Eric M. Small studying the role of desmosomal protein PKP2 on the alteration of nuclear envelope integrity and genomic organization in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ARVC|D). His clinical interests encompass adult and pediatric cardiology, especially Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). His research interest is Basic Cardiovascular Research with the intersection of epigenetic regulation and organelle biochemistry, and Clinical Research in Heart Failure and ACHD and the effect of e-cigarette, cigarette, and marijuana exposure in pediatric and adult populations.
Daniel earned dual B.A. with Honors in Molecular and Cell Biology and Public Health with a minor in Molecular Toxicology at the University of California, Berkeley. He previously worked at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew L. Springer where he researched the role of e-cigarette, cigarette, and marijuana use on the cardiovascular system. Also, he interned as a Summer Research Intern at the University of Pittsburgh in the laboratory of Dr. Partha Dutta where he researched the role of platelet-derived extracellular vesicles on myocardial infarction.
